We love dogs. A relationship with your dog is similar to with your human friends. It needs understanding, mutual respect and good communication. It's common to feel unsure of what to do with your dog or puppy, feel like you made the wrong decision, causing doubts or to think you have bitten off more than you can chew. You might be struggling with problems such as, loose lead walking, recall, sit, wait, or more complex issues. You're not alone!
Nanook Dogs (previously called Rambling Hounds) is based in Romsey, Hampshire & comprises of 2 friends colleagues Gee & Buffy who help new & established pet owners work together with their dogs through training and support.
Qualifications & Rescue Dog Experience
We have both faced the struggles & experienced the joys first hand. Which is why we continue to work with & grow from our companion dogs together. Both proud to be accredited by PACT & the ABTC as qualified Animal Training Instructors (ATI) we have learned so much since initially getting our own rescue dogs & studying with various different reputable modern canine training institutions.
We both work within the rescue sector alongside Running our business to help dogs & their future humans.
Our aim is to positively support owners & dogs to live as the best companions they can be.
Growing up in the New Forest was a great place for animals & I always had pets from a young age. I began my personal journey with Yoda, my very unique Portuguese street dog; a Podengo. Our bond grew quickly but it became apparent he wasn’t comfortable with everyone he met, was reactive to some dogs & had a bite reflex. He exuded a calm confidence (or so I thought) so I rescued another Spanish Podenco cross - Ewok, a handsome, bouncy, playful ball of energy with with limited social skills, resulting in conflict between the pair. I turned to a trainer & enrolled on my first course in canine body language with the IMDT. I realised how limited my knowledge was & how much more there was to fill my brain with. I had to pursue my journey into understanding, studying & working with dogs. I started out with a friend as a dog walker in Brighton, walking dogs with more complex needs: Nanook Dogs was born. Moving into the world of training with my life long friend, I now continue to learn whilst working, my aim being to support people & their dogs communicate & grow bonds so they can love living together.
Growing up on a small holding in the New Forest was amazing; working with the ponies, sheep & chickens, as well as hanging out with our various pets. I began my dog training journey in 2017, when I rescued Sprout, a Spanish sight hound. My beautiful, loving, playful whirlwind of a new housemate began to teach me how little I knew about dogs. Being a nervous, noise sensitive, larger than life, bouncy & reactive girl with a touch of separation related issues she has taught me so much. Sprout brought me so much joy but also a generous sprinkling of anxiety, this might sound familiar!
I started to learn about canine body language & explore the world of positive dog training. I learned how to read her subtle movements & understand her ways more & I was hooked. Since then I have welcomed 2 more rescue dogs into my home, trained with 3 different dog training schools & have begun working with & training companion dogs & supporting at rescue centres. My goal is to help other dog owners who are unsure & worried but that want to help their dogs to be content and happy and enjoy their time together.
Getting a dog as a companion is very exciting but can take up a lot of time & energy. This can sometimes lead to guilt, frustration & stress and that's when we can help!
A dogs trust is something special & we want them to keep their trust in us. Our approach is positive re-enforcement & enrichment based; we don't use aversive techniques. We want your dog or puppy to be fulfilled & happy after a session, as well as you!
With a clear, confident & holistic approach, our dog training sessions will be symbiotic between us, you & your dog, working together to improve behaviours & happiness through observations & interactions. We tailor the training to you & your dogs needs within the home or out walking, then put together a management & training program to work on.
A positive approach creates positive results.
We provide an in person puppy training/dog training & management service. When meeting with you & your dog, our sessions can be at your home, at our field space or out on a walk, taking into consideration where you're facing issues.
